HOW WE SERVE
At DiaBeating The Odds, we deliver programs for individuals living with diabetes and those who support them. Our initiatives are relatable, accessible, and tailored to community needs, while also being innovative, engaging, and impactful. From free or low-cost community events and awareness campaigns to conversation series highlighting real-life experiences, our efforts focus on mitigating common barriers to effective diabetes management and helping people overcome diabetes one day at a time.

Our Focus Areas
We approach this mission through three core focus areas:
Physical & Mental Wellness
Youth & Family Engagement
Social Support & Belonging
Improving holistic health for individuals and communities impacted by diabetes.
Creating opportunities for youth and families impacted by diabetes to learn, connect, and flourish together.
Ensuring individuals impacted by diabetes feel connected, valued, and supported within the community.

Common Barriers to
Diabetes Management
We recognize that managing diabetes can be challenging, especially for individuals in
under-resourced communities. Common barriers may include:
Limited Access to Care
Challenges obtaining necessary diabetes care due to insufficient insurance coverage, a shortage of healthcare providers, difficulty accessing regular screenings and medications, and geographic or transportation barriers.
Emotional & Social Challenges
Stress, isolation, and limited support networks can make managing daily care difficult, and individuals may experience anxiety, depression, or burnout.
Financial Constraints
The high cost of insulin, supplies, appointments, and healthy foods often makes it hard for people to manage diabetes consistently. These financial challenges can lead to gaps in care and greater health risks.
Cultural & Systemic Barriers
Cultural and systemic barriers, such as language differences, cultural norms, and inequities within healthcare systems, can make it harder for individuals to navigate care, access resources, and receive culturally sensitive treatment.
Lack of Education or Awareness
Lack of education or awareness can create gaps in understanding diabetes management, prevention strategies, and available resources, making it harder for individuals and families to make informed health decisions.
The Solution
By acknowledging these barriers, we design programs and initiatives that are practical, accessible, and tailored to help individuals overcome diabetes one day at a time.
